However, not all closed-minded idiots are racists and anti-Semites. There are radical Jewish groups as well, and the most well-known of these is the Jewish Defense League. Founded in 1968 to combat "the rise in anti-Semitism and to fight for the freedom of Soviet Jews" (as the group's Web site proclaims), the JDL proudly proclaims itself as "the most controversial, yet the most effective, of all Jewish organizations." Much of the JDL's actions have been reprisals against anti-Semitic violence, yet they have also issued statements supporting terrorist actions against Arabs and Palestinians. Most notably, they issued a statement in support of the massacre of twenty-nine Arabs in Hebron by Dr. Baruch Goldstein, an Israeli physician, in February of 1994. Members of the organization have also been convicted of plotting reprisal bombings against Muslim sites in the United States, in the wake of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
After the death of JDL chairman Irv Rubin, the group split up into several competing factions. The JDL's own Web domain, jdl.org, was suspended, while the Web site for the Illinois chapter became the "official" JDL Web site.
And why is it that every stupid extremist group insists that their chosen enemies are actually Nazis in disguise? Check out the picture on the "official" JDL Web site that mocks the Islamic message of peace – with, of course, the inclusion of a swastika.
