Isaac Bonewits

http://www.neopagan.net/

Isaac Bonewits is one of the more well-known online "activists" for paganism. He's put a number of projects into action over the years to expand its influence and take paganism beyond the realm of idiot "New Age" soothsayer crap, mallrat "Wiccans," and fluffy bunnies.

In cultic circles, Bonewits is best known for the ABCDEF, the Advanced Bonewits Cult Danger Evaluation Frame. This is a relatively unbiased "checklist" of the common traits of cult control, and it is often used by cult watchers to determine (or "prove") that certain groups are actually dangerous religious cults.

He's also infamous for his ridiculous response to the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. On his Web site, he announced a "psychic hunt for Osama Bin Laden," in which he encouraged many self-proclaimed "psychics" to focus their energies and track Bin Laden down, so that he could be captured and brought to justice. You can see how successful this "psychic" manhunt has been…

Bonewits is known in the online pagan circles for stirring up a lot of controversy and flame wars with his posts, declarations, sermons, and opinionated essays.

Recently, rumors have surfaced about a rare film of Anton LaVey and the Church of Satan, apparently made at some time during the 1960s. The video shows LaVey and his family performing rituals, and a number of geeky glasses-wearing nerds participating in the ceremonies with him. Apparently one of those geek nerds was none other than Isaac Bonewits. It's been claimed that Bonewits was making some real effort to rise in the "ranks" of the Church of Satan, before he pissed off LaVey and was kicked out. The video in question is available on Amazon (of all places!) as Satanis the Devil's Mass / Sinthia the Devil's Doll (1970), and (allegedly!) it includes a scene of Bonewits having certain parts of his anatomy blessed by LaVey himself.
