Rennes-le-Chateau

A village in southwestern France with appx. 200 inhabitants. What would be a rather boring rural place with a breathtaking view became infamous through some stories attached to it; mainly rumors of a treasure that was found by Abbe Sauniere, a parish priest, in the 1890s.

Since then, various French journalists and authors (namely Gerard de Sede) and mainly Henry Lincoln, M. Baigent and R. Leigh have made the place popular. The latter three published a book called "Holy Blood, Holy Grail" in the 1970s which formed the hypothesis that Jesus and Mary Magdalene had been married.

Nowadays the village is crowded with tourists, who read "The Da Vinci Code" or "The Expected One". Oh yeah, and the mayor is an idiot, too.
