In 9th Century China, a disparate group of warriors band together on the Silk Road to protect a caravan with a mysterious cargo from invading Turks.
Lots of sword play and just a tiny bit of Buddhist magic.
Epic, ultra-serious and earnest.
Filmed in the actual Silk Road regions of China and beautiful. Terrific attention to detail in costuming so the characters look a lot more barbaric than in the normal wuxia flicks. Very much like classic American westerns, including a definite visual quote from "The Magnificent Seven".
Almost no wire-fu.
We enjoyed this very much and I recommend it highly.
