Free the West Memphis Three

www.wm3.org

"WM3 stands for West Memphis Three… Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin, and Jesse Misskelley were tried and convicted of murdering three 8 yr old boys back in 1993/94 in West Memphis, Arkansas…based ONLY on Metallica CDs, dark poetry, Stephen King and Wicca-related books, and the fact that they wore black. There was absolutely NO physical evidence, no blood, no fingerprints, no NOTHING linking ANY of these 3 guys (who were between teh ages of 16 and 18 at the time) to the crime. They called it a Satanic cult killing, right in the Bible belt of America. And the jury found them guilty…Damien is on death row, and Jason and Jesse are serving life sentences.

"If you use NetFlix or can find it around any movie places, I highly suggest the documentaries Paradise Lost and Paradise Lost 2 -- Revelations. Also the book, The Devil's Knot by Mara Leveritt.

"Most of the 'evidence' that could have been used against another person (i.e. the stepfather of one of the murdered children) was 'lost' by police. This person was a known felon, beat his son, and also was a narc for the police. When the defense finally realized there were BITE wounds on one of the bodies, he had coincidentally already had all his teeth removed and now wears dentures. Everything points to him and no one's doing anything about it…

"That's why WM3.org was created. To raise awareness about the case, raise money for their defense fund and find the truth (not that one person is automatically being made out to be the mad guy here…but most everything surrounding the case points to him, then there's also the unknown cause of death of his wife a few years ago…He should most definately be investigated more thouroughly). The West Memphis Three (as they've been idolly named) have been serving prison sentences this entire time…for crimes they did NOT commit.

"I'm not usually so passionate about things like this. I hate court systems, cops, and politics, but still…this case really spoke to me the first time I saw the Paradise Lost documentary on HBO when I was like 12 yrs old.

"I have wanted to do a fundraiser in Deep Ellum for years…spent time making friends w/ local musicians, etc hopefully can one day do it and be able to send a damn good check to Lorri, Damien's wife, for the WM3 defense fund. And maybe get some people around here to fucking pay attention to injustice in the world."
