I really enjoy futuristic, electronic music with lots of drums, but I'm not crazy about disco-pop techno stuff or heavy thrash industrial… which points in the direction of ambient music. I'm not a fan of most "techno" stuff as it consists of little more than repetitive, thumping keyboard rhythms, just as rock-n-roll depends too heavily on those screaming guitars. I like synthesizers and percussion, but an inventive, creative rhythm is also a necessity for creating interesting "art rock." Hyperreal is the focus for several Internet mailing lists and over a hundred volunteers who want to expand the outreach of this genre of music. A number of ambient-related music magazines are associated with Hyperreal, but the organization and the Web site still hasn't been overrun by commercial, corporate, Conspiracy-driven interests.
