Thee Temple Ov Psychick Youth

Probably the most famous of the art-fag fusions of post-1970s underground rock and roll and so-called "occult" themes, Thee Temple Ov Psychick Youth was founded in the wake of Throbbing Gristle's breakup in 1981. It went on to declare itself a full-fledged "religion" after it was abandoned by Genesis P-Orridge in the early 1990s. GP-O had been heavily immersed in pagan and occult teachings as he grew up: His grandmother was a medium and his Dad was a jazz musician; and this was a heavy influence on his "art" as he grew up and became a rebel. Thee Temple Ov Psychick Youth was his way of exploring occultism and "magick" more thoroughly – while at the same time adding a heavy dose of sex. (This was just after the "Free Love" movement of the 60s, after all.) The group focuses on the psychic and magical aspects of the human brain, linked with "guiltless sexuality".

When the Church of the SubGenius unveiled its new symbol, the Dobbs Icon, in 1999, some fanboys complained and stated the Church had copied the TOPY logo and adopted it as its own. Lord Jesus Christ Himself denied this, however, pointing out that the Dobbs Icon was based upon the Graven Image of J.R. "Bob" Dobbs (note especially the Pipe in its mouth). Furthermore, the SubGenii noted that the TOPY symbol itself was a carbon copy of the Knights Templar logo from the Middle Ages, so it can hardly be considered original in itself.

Genesis P-Orridge himself either doesn't know or doesn't care about the Dobbs Icon, as there has been no lawsuit threat or any response at all from him in the years since the Dobbs Icon was created.
