The Clan of the Cave Bear

Instead of a spoken language, the thick-browed pre-historical people depicted in The Clan of the Cave Bear communicate with a mixture of sign language and spoken language. The most memorable hand-sign from the movie involves punching a balled-up fist into the palm of your other hand, then rotating the fist 180 degrees and clasping the fingers of both hands together. When a man of the tribe speaks the name of a woman, then makes this sign, then speaks his own name, it means she is to assume the position for him. Presumably if he spoke the name of some other man after the hand sign, it would be a command to assume the position for that other man, although it was never shown that way in the movie.
