Holy Quran

A World Wide Web version of the Holy Qu'ran, the book believed to have been written by Muhammad, as he dictated to his followers when he was visited by Allah. Muhammad was illiterate, so this is proof that he was channeling God instead of making it up himself. (Assuming Muhammad wasn't just having epileptic seizures.) Personally, I would have demanded a lot more proof than that, but I wasn't there at the time. Unless the Koran has been edited over time like the Bible has (which is possible), it does have one advantage over the Bible in that it was apparently written down very soon after it spouted from Mohammed's lips. The Bible was a bunch of folks tales passed from one storyteller to another over the course of several decades (or centuries, as some historians argue) before being gathered into the Big Book.

The Qu'ran versus the Bible, in a nutshell (based on an email from an anonymous source):

"No, Muslims don't believe that Jesus was the Messiah.
"Think of it like a movie. The Torah is the first one and the New Testament is the sequel. Then the Qu'ran comes out and it retcons the last one like it never happened. There's still Jesus, but he's not the main character anymore and the Messiah hasn't shown up yet.
"Jews liked the first movie but ignored the sequels. Christians think you need to watch the first two but the third movie doesn't count. Muslims think the third one was the best. (Mormons liked the second one so much they started writing fan fiction that doesn't fit with ANY of the series' canon.)"

Also:

"In the later days of his career, he had a secretary who wrote down most of his discourses. Earlier speeches were sometimes written down on camel shoulder blades and palm fronds by others. After his death, several varying versions were in circulation. The secretary who had taken down his later pronouncments was appointed by Uthman, an early caliph who succeeded Mohammed, to gather all known materials, including the memorized versions of suras by Mohammed's closest followers, create a standard version of the Quran, and once this was done, this version was pronounced the true version and all other variant manuscripts were ordered gathered and destroyed. A few very early variant manuscripts are known from Yemen." – Pope Charles of Houston (Slack!)
