Peter Popoff

Peter Popoff is best known as the so-called "faith healer" who was exposed on The Tonight Show during the 1980s. Famous paranormal investigator James Randi did what he does best: he investigated Popoff and exposed his methods, with the help of his good friend (and fellow skeptic) Johnny Carson. Popoff's ministry declined in popularity as a result, and he declared bankruptcy in the late 1980s. But he hasn't gone away, and now Popoff is back – and he's bringing his "holy" crusade to the Internet.

Popoff's organization has bought up every Internet domain in sight that is even remotely related to his name! His folks even tried to change the Wikipedia article on Popoff into an advertisement for his services, but that didn't last very long. Check out some of these links:

Popoff's Web site promotes testimonies from people who have been miraculously cured with the help of Popoff's prayers! Check this out: "Thank you so much for the miracle water that you sent me for my foot that I had so much pain in for at least 3 years. Praise God the pain is gone thanks to the miracle water!" Popoff's Miracle Water isn't included in the products for sale at the web site, though you can most likely get a bottle or two if you promise a donation to his ministry. Popoff has also been known to use the same tactics as St. Matthews Churches in his mailings, including composing "self-written" phony typed letters. Check out this example of one of Popoff's letters.

Randi's book The Faith Healers details his investigations and the working of Popoff's methods. Praise JA-HEE-ZUS for the miracle of modern technology!
