Talk about BannedHosts

Oh boy, we've got our first spammer. pcnet.ro is going under BannedHosts.

what happened with this then?

The spammer replaced the text of a couple of pages with a long list of sex links - and not good sex links, either. Stupid rip-off porn sites. Check the page history of The Top XXX Cliches of alt.sex.stories.

Hmm, it's been over 24 hours since the spammer showed up. I guess the banning works. That's good to know.

Note that I just deleted some mortgage spams linking to http://mortgage . infty . net/

(And then modified the link here, to make it non-clickable.)

Thanks for the help; tie.cl just went onto the ban list. So far, all of the banned sites have been from foreign locations that are primarily used and abused by spammer. I figure we'll have a nice collection of spam sites before long.

Thanks for yout help, justjohn; since I spent some time tracking down the other spammer (the IP address came up blank until I downloaded a new IP tracking program), I missed this one.

A person on news.admin.net-abuse.misc forwarded the following link:

Regarding the despamming module:

According to:

http://www.oddmuse.org/cgi-bin/wiki/Despam_Extension

You have to follow a link like:

http://www.emacswiki.org/cgi-bin/test?action=despam

This marks for deletion any page touched by any of the spammers listed in the BannedHosts page.

Those rollback links you've seen were already part of the wiki, at least according to the way I've read the source.

Ever consider going to the BannedHosts pages on others running similar wikis and stealing any new data they have?

It's a thought; I suppose the Oddmuse site itself would have the most complete banned listing. There's another wiki out there that was recently founded; this wiki is especially dedicated to discussing and implementing methods to block wiki spammers. I forget its name right now, though; I'll have to look it up.

Now that the Banned Content list is up and running, I'm removing most of the entries from the banned sites list. I'd rather give more people chances to make entries to this site, and I don't want to block an entire country (such as China) because of one goddamn spammer.
