While browsing at the Got Books Used Book Superstore, I was fortunate enough to stumble across a copy of the documentary Waiting For Nesara, which first came out in 2005 or 2006. Copies of this film have been floating around for the past three years, and I can heartily recommend it as a Bulldada treasure trove for the conspiracy lover in all of us.
Essentially, it's a compilation of filmed vignettes showing us the day-to-day operations of the Open Mind Forum, a group of excommunicated former Mormons who gather at public meeting places in Utah to promote their conspiracy theory. And what a conspiracy theory it is – a combination of UFO extraterrestrial Space Brothers and insidious political cover-ups, flavored and influenced by the events of September 11, 2001 and the excesses of the Bush Administration. I can't even begin to describe what this is like, other than to summarize it based upon the viewpoint put forward by the Open Mind Forum itself:
Now you can see why these folks call themselves the Open Mind Forum. In fact, Waiting For Nesara begins with a quote from the Gospel of John: "Blessed are they who believe without seeing." Along with the description of NESARA, the documentary focues on the Open Mind Forum's founder and his wife, and we see his efforts to bring the good news to people – via late night radio talk shows and open meetings in KFC restaurants. Somehow, the first 25 minutes of this film manage to tie NESARA into a cosmic conspiracy involving extraterrestrials, the evil reptilian rulers of our planet (David Icke would love these guys), and lots of middle-aged and older folks making sincere statements about how 40,000 United States soldiers in Iraq were kidnapped, and won't be released until NESARA is enacted.
What makes this video surprisingly endearing is how it reminds me of Rev. Ivan Stang's X-Day videos: the filmmakers, Zeb and Elisa Haradon, aren't making fun of these folks or trying to put them down. They're allowing them to express their beliefs openly, and these folks are being completely honest in their views – they're not trying to hide anything or cover it up. This is made especially apparent during a scene in which the Open Mind Forum's founder is verbally attacked by a radio talk show caller who points out that NESARA is against the United States Constitution. He doesn't try very hard to defend his views, alas; instead, the caller is cut off. That's too bad, because it doesn't mean he's wrong – it just means he's not very good at logical debates.
These folks' sincerity even resulted in a mention in Russ Kick's Disinformation Guide, Everything You Know About God Is Wrong. If nothing else, it shows the great advantage of being open and truthful about your beliefs: if you're honest, sincere, and you want to help people, then be glad because you are not alone.
