The Whisky Popes were formed as an antagonistc triumverate of drinkers by Pope Phil Monty along national lines:

Pope Phil Monty (being of Scottish decent) — Scotch Whisky

Pope David Lee Black (exciled from the USA) — Bourbon

Pope Mickey Finn (Irish born) — Irish Whiskey

In recent years Pope Phil Monty has concentrated on quality, rather than quantity - leaving the HARD drinking to his esteemed bretheren.
