To reiterate the points we discussed, the specific materials concerned are in fact owned by the Religious Technology Centre (RTC), the owner of the confidential Advanced Technology of the Scientology Religion and holder of the exclusive rights under the copyrights applicable to the Advanced Technology materials. The Advanced Technology materials are confidential, unpublished, copyrighted works. RTC works include, among others, the individial works comprising levels known as "NOTS". Mr. David Bromage, appears to have set up his web page on your computers. The specifics are: http://www.metz.une.edu.au/dbromage/cos/index.html http://www.metz.une.edu.au/dbromage/cos/not-index.html http://www.metz.une.edu.au/dbromage/cos/ned1.html http://www.metz.une.edu.au/dbromage/cos/ned2.html http://www.metz.une.edu.au/dbromage/cos/ned3.html http://www.metz.une.edu.au/dbromage/cos/ned4.html http://www.metz.une.edu.au/dbromage/cos/ned5.html http://www.metz.une.edu.au/dbromage/cos/ned6.html http://www.metz.une.edu.au/dbromage/cos/ned7.html These works have been placed onto this web site without the authorization of the RTC, the works registered with the US Copyright Office under registration number TXU 257326 and TXU 257527. As these postings violate copyright laws of the USA and Denmark and as they are on your computers I therefore request your assistance and ask that immediate action is taken to remove these materials and that Mr, bromage (whi is a student of the University) is informed that he is not authorized to post these materials. We are currently involved in litigation in the United States, Holland and Sweden over the same and similar materials in several lawsuits. Injunctions have been granted in each case recognizing RTC's rights to these materials. We are not seeking to become involved in litigation, but will take all necessary measures to protect our rights. I am also sure that you don't want your computers to be used for infringement purposes. Therefore I would appreciate your assistance in getting these materials removed from the Web site. Coule you please confirm that you have been able to take the necessary actions to remove these materials as soon as possible. I can be faxed in Sydney on 029-267 2198. Yours sincerely (signed by Vicki Hanna) Vicki Hanna Legal Officer Church of Scientology [Attached were 10 pages of Form TX - US Copyright Registrations] I've just met with Paul Robinson , the acting ITS Director. Even when the matter of copyright is resolved, it appears I will have to remove the pages under University regulations relating to the use of University computing facilities. He said that "some action" may be taken over the "possible misuse" of computing facilities for non-academic purposes. I pointed out that the university recently started getting feeds of the alt.binaries.pictures.erotica.* newsgroups and also has a MUD and MUSH running locally, as well as having hundreds of personal Web pages on metz. His response to the erotica newsgroups was "we don't censor", but refrained from commenting on the other things. Please send your supporting comments and evidence to probinso@metz.une.edu.au I ask that you urge him to take no punitive or disciplinary action short of asking that the pages be removed. If I am merely asked to remove these pages, I am prepared to do so provided the matter is then dropped. Not bad for someone who has only been reading this newsgroup for less than a week? :) Cheers David
